The Healing Journey: What It Means to Be a Healer
Healers come in all shapes and sizes, from traditional medicine men in indigenous cultures to doctors and surgeons in modern hospitals to alternative medicine specialists such as chiropractors and naturopaths to anyone else who helps people feel better, be healthier, or get well again. Each healer has his or her own method of doing so; however, there are some commonalities between them, which is what this article will discuss.
Relieves burden
Those who are there to help others, to relieve the burden of others, are healers. These are the people that can be there and of service in times of chaos, in times, of uncertainty, and in times of emotional need.
Builds connections
A healer is a bridge, a connection, a lifeline to others. They are essentially the backbone of any society. The healer is someone that identifies with others and is skilled in the art of being with another person. For what we need, what we want, and what we crave is connection. Knowing that this connection comes from a place of trust, of authenticity, and of love is transformative. We need one another for healing to happen. A strong bond can assist an individual in evolving to a more positive and thoughtful stance in life.
Brings balance
Healers assist in achieving balance. To do this, many healers strive to see beyond the physical into the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of life. They use that knowledge to aid in the restoration of balance for clients and themselves.
Advocate
Healers are activists for those being healed. Often, when we are unbalanced, it is hard to be an advocate for our needs. Healers dare to be the voice others may not be open to hearing.
Validate experience
In essence, healers bear witness to another’s life experiences. They validate another’s journey by being there. Sometimes just knowing that someone is there makes a huge difference. Many times, clients can feel compassion and care. The experience of being seen and understood can not only be therapeutic, but it can be empowering.
Being a healer contributes to the world in a meaningful way. Healers help others to heal their physical, emotional, and spiritual wounds. They are a guiding light for those lost in darkness, a source of strength for those feeling weak. Healers provide hope for those who have lost all hope. It is a meaningful path with a meaningful purpose.
